✓ Summary — What this policy covers
- Collected: the domain of the audited page and its text content — only when you click Analyze
- Processed: domain and text sent to external APIs to compute your GEO score — ephemeral, no logging
- Stored: audit results only, locally in your browser — never on a server
- Shared: domain and text relayed to Groq, OpenPageRank, SerpAPI, Reddit, Wikipedia via our proxy — never sold, never used for advertising
1. Overview
GEO Auditor is a free Chrome extension that analyzes the active web page to compute a GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) score — a measure of how likely the page is to be cited by AI search platforms such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and Claude.
This policy explains what data is collected, how it is processed, where it is stored, and with whom it is shared — in compliance with Chrome Web Store policies and GDPR.
2. Data Collection
2.1 Data collected when you run an audit
GEO Auditor collects data only when you explicitly click the "Analyze" button. Nothing is collected in the background or during normal browsing.
| Data | Example | Why collected |
|---|---|---|
| Domain name of the active page | example.com | Required to query authority and citation APIs |
| Text content of the active page | Headings, paragraphs, JSON-LD schemas | Required for semantic and structure analysis |
2.2 Data stored locally
Audit results (GEO score, dimension scores, recommendations) are saved locally in your browser via chrome.storage.local. This data never leaves your device.
2.3 Data NOT collected
| Data type | Collected? |
|---|---|
| Personal information (name, email, address) | ❌ Never |
| IP address | ❌ Never |
| Browsing history | ❌ Never |
| Cookies or session data | ❌ Never |
| Form data or passwords | ❌ Never |
| Account information | ❌ Never |
| Precise location | ❌ Never |
3. Data Processing
Collected data is used exclusively to compute the GEO score of the page you chose to analyze. The processing pipeline is:
- The domain is sent to the publisher proxy to query authority scoring APIs (OpenPageRank, SerpAPI, Reddit, Wikipedia)
- The page text is sent to the publisher proxy, then relayed to Groq AI for semantic analysis
- All API responses are combined by the extension to produce the GEO score
- The score and recommendations are displayed to you and saved locally
Data is not used for advertising, profiling, or any purpose other than computing your GEO score.
4. Data Storage
4.1 Local storage (your device)
Audit results are stored in chrome.storage.local — a sandboxed browser storage accessible only by GEO Auditor. This data:
- Remains exclusively on your device
- Is never synchronized to external servers
- Can be deleted at any time from the extension interface
- Is automatically deleted when you uninstall the extension
4.2 Server-side storage
4.3 Retention period
Local audit history is retained until you clear it or uninstall the extension. No automatic expiry is applied.
6. User Consent
On first launch, GEO Auditor displays a consent screen that lists all data collected, where it goes, and why — before any analysis begins. You must explicitly click "I agree — Start using GEO Auditor" to proceed.
No data is collected or transmitted before this consent is given.
You can withdraw consent at any time by uninstalling the extension. Uninstalling also removes all locally stored audit history.
7. Offline Mode
GEO Auditor offers an Offline mode accessible from the Settings tab. When enabled:
- No data is sent to any external API (Groq, OpenPageRank, SerpAPI, Reddit, Wikipedia)
- Only local on-page analysis is performed (structure, readability, crawlability)
- The Authority Signal dimension will show as unavailable
- An "OFFLINE" badge is displayed in the extension header
Offline mode gives you full control over what data leaves your device.
8. Chrome Permissions
| Permission | Why it is needed |
|---|---|
activeTab | Read the URL and content of the active tab when the user triggers an audit. Only active when the user clicks "Analyze". |
scripting | Inject the DOM extraction script into the active page to read headings, schemas, and text content for analysis. |
storage | Save audit results and user consent locally in the browser (chrome.storage.local). No data leaves the device. |
sidePanel | Display the GEO Auditor panel alongside the page without opening a new tab or popup. |
<all_urls> | Fetch /robots.txt and /llms.txt from any domain the user chooses to audit, and communicate with the Cloudflare Worker proxy. The audited domain is selected by the user at runtime, so access to arbitrary URLs is required. |
9. Third-Party Services
Each third-party service used by GEO Auditor operates under its own privacy policy (linked in Section 5). GEO Auditor is not responsible for the data practices of these services beyond what is described in this policy.
All third-party requests are routed through the publisher proxy to avoid exposing API keys in the extension code. The proxy does not add any data to the requests beyond what is described above.
10. Your Rights (GDPR)
| Right | How to exercise it |
|---|---|
| Right of access | View your full audit history in the extension's History tab |
| Right to deletion | Clear your history at any time from the extension interface, or uninstall the extension |
| Right to object | Do not click "Analyze" — no data is collected passively. Or enable Offline mode. |
| Right to withdraw consent | Uninstall the extension |
| Right to data portability | Your audit data is stored locally and is inherently portable |
11. Changes to This Policy
This policy may be updated to reflect changes in the extension's functionality or applicable law. In the event of a material change, a notice will be displayed in the extension interface. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will be revised accordingly.
Continued use of the extension after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
